At Evelyn’s Bakery & Café we are passionate about everything to do with baking.

Whether selecting the best quality ingredients or challenging the taste, texture and quality of all our baked goods, we are constantly working on refining our recipes and researching and developing new ones.

We are proud of our history and how this has made us to want to create great tasting cakes, traybakes and gateaux and also equally good tasting produce for people on gluten free and dairy free diets.

The name “Evelyn’s Bakery & Café” was inspired by our head pastry chef, Greg Singleton’s mother whose name was Evelyn. Evelyn was a great home baker and involved Greg in baking in the kitchen as a child, this is where Greg’s passion for baking was to come from.

Greg’s family has had a long history of baking, in fact Greg’s Great-Great Grandfather was Pastry Chef to Tsar Paul the 1st in Russia.  In the 1980’s Greg ran his own patisserie supplying Gateaux to restaurants, hotels and cafes and received an accolade from the Good Food Guide who tried his Chocolate Meringue Gateau at one of his customer’s premises. More recently his gluten free Dorset Apple Cake won third prize at the Christchurch Food Fair up against competition from other professionals with products using wheat flour.

Evelyn’s expanded in September 2013 when an opportunity to create a café arose. The aim of the café is to be a friendly and welcoming hub, bringing all parts of the Moordown community together.

A focus for Evelyn’s café is providing home cooking, encouraging healthy eating and all at an affordable price.
